Comprehensive eye exam

What a yearly exam covers

Dr. Meijer checks how well you see, how your eyes work together and the health of the eye itself. Every member of a household plan has one each plan year.

  • Your current glasses or contact lenses are measured

  • Your eye pressure and the front and back of each eye are checked

  • Dr. Meijer explains what he finds and what it means for you

  • You leave with a copy of your prescription

The visit

What happens, step by step

  • 01

    Check-in and history

Liz confirms your benefits and plan. Tom asks about your glasses, your work and how your eyes feel day to day.

  • 02

    Pre-test

Tom runs the instruments that measure your eyes. Nothing touches your eye.

  • 03

    The exam

Dr. Meijer compares lenses, checks eye health and talks through results.

  • 04

    Glasses or contacts, if needed

Lisandra shows you frames and lenses. You get a written estimate before anything is ordered.

A first visit takes about 45 minutes.

How often

An age guide for the household

  • Children and teens

Ask at a first visit. Dr. Meijer sets the schedule by each child's eyes, and a parent comes to the exam.

  • Adults

Most adults come every year or two. A household plan assumes one exam in the plan year.

  • Adults 60 and older

Most come every year, because the risk of eye conditions rises with age.

Billing and what to bring

Before you come

  • How it is billed

A routine exam goes to a vision plan, a medical visit to medical insurance, or you pay yourself. See how fees work.

  • What to bring

Your current glasses, your contact lenses, a list of your medicines and your insurance cards.

  • The doctor who does it

Dr. Lukas Meijer, Doctor of Optometry, sees every patient.

Exam questions

Exam questions

Do I need an exam if I see fine?

Yes. Many eye conditions cause no symptoms early on, so a yearly or every-other-year exam checks more than your sight.

Will my eyes be dilated?

Sometimes. Dr. Meijer tells you why before he does it, and the drops can make your eyes sensitive to light for a few hours.

Does an exam include a prescription?

Yes. Your prescription is yours. You get a copy after the exam, and you can fill it anywhere.
